awkward family portraits, by magida el-kassis
ottawa photographer, Magida El-Kassis is currently working with us on a project, to be released in 2013. she's an incredible lady and has a heart of gold. Magida provided us with a small photo series earlier this week that we were super stoked on, and wanted to take the time to post here. here's magida's description of what she's shot (*alongside what she's shot).
"So I originally really wanted to create a family portrait of my
sister, my dog and I, but I wanted to create this bizarre family portrait that you see on the internet, where everything is
perfect and uncomfortably awkward.
You see these people out there who are OBSESSED with their animals,
and talk about them like they are humans, and how much they are apart
of your life, which is weirdly 100% true. All my sisters and I sit
around talking about our pets, showing them off when we walk and talk
to other pet owners about our animals like they are our children.
So, these are some family portraits in some weird settings in their
(my) home.
I started advertising pet photography to see if people would want to
have their photo with their pets. I think the photos just make people
feel weird and people just aren't buying into the whole thing. Haha.
Nonetheless it is super fun to create these moments."
these are awesome! anyhow we also wanted to take the time to mention that magida is having a show at mugshots on nov 15 from 7 - 11 PM in ottawa, canada. proceeds from the night will help magida's upcoming project, "marjeyoun". would be awesome to see people make it out!
